The Queen's EnglishWe've all seen it. The grammar is good, the spelling spot on but, somehow, text written in English by someone more familiar with another language just isn't quite right. There's nothing really wrong with it but it's not how a native English speaker would have said it. It doesn't quite make sense. Most of the time it's not critical but with approaching 35% of the world's people speaking English for business, creating the right impression with English that is right, looks right, sounds right and makes sense, is vitally important. At The Words Workshop we call it 'Localisation': making English text read as though a local, native speaker has written it. |
